Below is a list of interests members would like to have considered for inclusion in the negotiations for the next Unit Contract:
1. Reinstatement of concessions made in the last contract (e.g. 12 sick days a year, check cashning break, 10:30 option on Sunday, etc.).
2. COLA accross the board, rather than only for pensioners.
3. Full compensation for 42 hour work week for 2nd platooners
4. Break room on the south end of the building
In addition to the four examples listed above, it would be helpful for membership if the executive board could provide a list of concessions made in the last contract as well as some solid numbers for what was received in exchange. This would assist membership in understanding not only what happened in the last contract, but what we might expect to be offered in the next. It would really be instructive to understand how we've gotten to where we are in order to better understand where we are going.
Contract News: We need a COLA!
Posted July 4th, 2008 (From R. Schirmer)
We need a Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) for our pension plan. Our defined benefit plan pays out a fixed rate for life. This means that it loses value every year that a retiree lives. With inflation the way it is, and probably will get worse, a retiree could be in great financial difficulty if they live 15 or 20 years after retirement. The pension payment for retirees needs to be adjusted annually with the inflation rate. All members with five years of service or more (or those that will have five years of service) have a vested interest in a pension COLA.
