Posted June 9th, 2008
According to the DC 37 website, wages, hours, working conditions and fringe benefits are governed by collective bargaining contracts negotiated between DC 37 and the City of New York. The "City Contract" as it is commonly known, but more correctly (according to the DC 37 website), should be called the "Economic Contract" has expired on March 2, 2008. In addition to the contract negotiated with the city, our unit (local 1503) also bargains directly with the Museum. The "Museum Contract" as it is commonly refered, or more correctly termed the "Unit Contract" is has expired on June 30, 2008.
The "Economic Contract" (City Contract) can be downloaded HERE
The "Unit Contract" (Museum Contract) will be downloadable shortly. Until that time contact a union representative for a copy.
Union Dues
Posted June 9th, 2008
80% of the bi-weekly dues taken out of your check (currently $21.00) goes to pay for the per capita tax to the International Union (AFSCME) and to DC 37. The money is primarily used to operate these institutions (saleries, utilities, insurance, publications etc.) The remainder of the dues money remains in the local for its operations. The per capita tax periodically goes up. The local must raise its dues accordingly to pay the per capita tax and have enough for its own operation. The executive board is presently reviewing the finances to see if a dues is necessary. No decision has been made at this time. However, this arrangement will change in the near future. As per an ammendment passed at the 2006 International Convention, the dues will be a percentage of the member's gross base pay. It will be a minimum of 2% and controlled by the district Council and takes effect in January 1, 2011.
